Peoples Park, Banbury

Beautifully Landscaped Play Space in the heart of the town centre

The historic Peoples Park, situated in the heart of Banbury town centre has now been totally transformed after innovative Play and Sports equipment manufacturer Record RSS installed a 320k play space on behalf of Banbury Town Council.

This landscape-led scheme caters for all ages and abilities. It includes an Eco timber trail, Swings, Cone Climber, Pirate Playhouse, Cantilever swing, as well as a Sports area for older children, Fitness equipment, seating and other associated landscaping works. The original plans for the park were to theme the play space based upon the book Gulliver’s Travels which was written by Jonathan Swift who was born and raised in Banbury.

At the end of March, Record RSS were awarded the contract as the successful Tenderer. In June, after several meetings between the original landscape architect, the client Banbury T.C. and the planning authority Cherwell D.C. as well as a formal and comprehensive tree roots survey, the first phase was ready to commence.

The second phase of the project however proved to be a little more challenging, as the original design had to consequently match up to existing holes on the site. This problem was quickly resolved using the skills of the landscaper, business partner Stoneage Landscapes, and their Arboreal consultant. In October Record RSS were finally granted permission to proceed with the installation works, which were completed in early December.

Through working closely with the client, Record RSS produced a fantastic play space which compliments and enhances it’s natural environment. James Baldry, Area Manager for Record RSS commented “The end result is a fabulous play and sports arena which the residents of Banbury will be able to enjoy for many years to come. The response from the families has been enlightening and it has made it all the more pleasurable for us the designers, manufacturers and installers.”
